Michelle Cervantez
Michelle is from Aurora, Colorado. She has dedicated over twenty years of her life to working with children. After receiving her Masters in Education and endorsement in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL), she taught for eight years in public schools and Taught English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) for two years in Spain.
She specialized in teaching English to children from around the world. Some of her favorite moments of teaching in public schools were the years she taught refugees from many different countries such as: Africa, Russia, Mongolia, China, Viet Nam, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Iran, South America, and India. At one point, the school she was teaching at had over 52 different languages spoken in it! The calling to work with kids in need started when she was a teenager and gradually intensified once she became a world traveler. She loves traveling to different countries and gaining new insight from all the similarities and differences around the world. After witnessing the poverty and neglect of orphaned and abandoned children in India, Michelle yearned to find a way to help children who are deeply deprived of love, but she had no idea where to start. |
The courage to lean into this vision came to fruition after she suffered the painful loss of a person very dear to her. In 2012, her girlfriend Karina died in a devastating car accident. Through the tragic loss of Karina, Michelle became closer to Amy. Their relationship grew into something very healing as they mutually discovered that they had a shared vision of helping kids in need. They became best friends, then business partners, then spiritual partners, and ultimately they fell in love and got married. Michelle and Amy believe they were divinely connected and then guided to embark on a “kids love project” together.

Over the years, Michelle has learned that everything, even the most tragic things, can be cultivated into something positive, powerful and healing when you have love and support. She believes that children with difficult pasts could also do the same if they have help. Losing someone Michelle loved deeply, and then meeting Amy in the process, shifted her priorities and pushed her to follow through with her true calling and purpose – to devote the rest of her life to giving love to the most forgotten children.
Michelle is also a Reiki Master, Teacher and trained in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). She loves nature, animals, traveling, yoga, meditation, playing sports, hiking, gardening, volunteering and spending time with her nieces and nephew, and caring for and cuddling all the fur (and feather) babies on the AKLP farmstead.
