With everything that is happening in the United States with children, it’s no wonder the Universe and the angels guided us to take a second look at establishing the AKLP closer to home. Creating safe, loving, and healthy sanctuaries for children in the foster care system has never been more needed than it is today! Thanks to some recent laws that have changed in a handful of States for same-sex couples (read the blog titled, Phase #5: Travel Research In North Carolina ), we are happy to announce that we are getting ourselves ready to move to North Carolina! North Carolina DiscoveriesAfter personally funding 12 days of travel research in North Carolina (NC), we have come to realize that North Carolina is a high need location and potentially has everything we need to establish the AKLP’s mission and vision. While traveling and researching in NC we met with the Department of Social Services (DSS), we toured 2 Children Homes (Crossnore School and Children’s Home and Black Mountain Children’s Home) and we looked at farm style properties for sale. Here is what we learned from North Carolina’s DSS and Children’s Homes during our travel:
Our Moving DetailsAs you can see, North Carolina is a “High Need” State and we want to be established in a “High-Need” area. Therefore, we believe that the AKLP’s mission and vision could make a tremendous impact there. We look forward to learning more about North Carolina as we live there and we will be sharing all that we learn along the way. Instead of packing a container and sending it on a ship to Uruguay, we are instead going to pack a Uhaul truck and drive it to Asheville, North Carolina (which is much easier and more affordable, yay!). Our official moving date is July 28th, 2018. While we rent an apartment in North Carolina we will:
Life Is Sometimes Like A Boomerang...I can’t help feeling like our journey has been a lot like a boomerang that we ironically first learned to throw during our first trip to Australia in 2014! A boomerang is designed and shaped to fly out and spin back to its point of origin and we have done just that. We have taken flight around the world (with our own personal finances) to research programs, organizations and locations in Australia, New Zealand, Ecuador, Uruguay and then back again finally landing in North Carolina. So, needless to say, we are just as surprised as anyone else that we are going to stay in the USA! With all said and done, we whole-heartedly cherish our travel research abroad because everything we have learned and experienced during our travels has contributed in some way to shaping our mission, vision, and goals for the Angel K Love Project. We now know that all of the knowledge we acquired from our traveling experiences was truly priceless! If you, or anyone you know, would like to help us during this start-up process in North Carolina, please contact us via email at angelkloveproject@gmail.com
